Donald Trump, the current president of the United States, has gained a lot of support from the Ku Klux Klan because of his intention to rid America of illegal immigrants. In 1865 the Ku Klux Klan was created by six confederates from Tennessee. They wanted to protest that slavery should not have been banned. They would kill innocent victims in the dark of night with their faces hidden in an effort to fight the new civil rights law. In the 1860’s, the group was a secret organization. At the time, most of the Klan members were veterans of the Civil War. The first â€Å"Grand Wizard† of the KKK was a confederate general by the name Nathan Bedford Forrest. Many KKK members deny any form of Communism, stating that it is against their beliefs. Most Klan groups don’t accept Neo-Nazis. White Supremacists are individuals who believe that the white race is superior to any other race and should therefore be commanding over the other races. Different white supremacist groups highlight a certain race as the enemy. White supremacy had foundations both before and after the American Civil War. During the 1800’s in the United States nearly all white supremacists owned slaves. Throughout most of America’s history, humans of a different race than caucasian were not allowed to vote or hold a government office job. They had practically no rights at all. Post 1960’s white supremacists held the â€Å"far-right† ideology. Neo-nazis typically fall under this ideology also. The far-right, or alt-right as it is also called, reject mainstream conservatism and embrace racism and white supremacy. There really isn’t an alt-left because alt-right is white supremacy but everything else, believing in equal rights, doesn’t fall on the opposite side o f the spectrum. There is simply an alt-right, and an everything else. White supremacy also classifies as white pride and white power. The Ku Klux Klan is composed of white pride individuals. White pride characterizes as loving the caucasian race above all other races. People in the white pride belief system disagree with interracial relationships. This is when two different races are together. Whether it be friendships, or romantic relationships. In the present day, white supremacists are generally okay seeing different races, and sometimes they will even interact with different races, but they absolutely hate seeing a couple mix. African American men typically collected ten dollars a month, while white men made thirteen. Today, about ninety two percent of African Americans reported feeling discriminated against at some point in their lives according to a recent study by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The people wh o submitted the survey were of many backgrounds and ages. Beverly Reeves, who was in an interview about African American individuals, being an African American herself, said that being treated differently than caucasians was â€Å"duh†. It was to be expected and she had experienced racism throughout her life. She goes on to tell a story about how she booked a manicure appointment for her and her friends. It was a mix of black and white women. The white salon owner looked right past her and helped the white friends before helping her, even though she was there first and was the one who booked the appointment. Another individual reported being told there were no houses available for real estate in her area, but gave a different answer to a white couple. This stereotype isn’t just expressed within African Americans, but many other races as well, such as Mexican Americans. People have heard innumerable rumors about Mexican Americans, or Mexican immigrants such as â€Å"mafia members†, â€Å"they steal our jobs!†, â€Å"all they do is drugs†, etc. There is minimal truth behind these stereotypes. It’s like saying that all Americans are fat. They simply aren’t. There might be a percentage who are, but still many who diet and workout. The same goes for Mexican Americans. There has been racial discrimination towards Mexican Americans since the 1840’s. It was at that time that it was officially announced that Mexican American segregation was present in American schools. There was also illegal deportations and lynching that echoed Jim Crow laws. When the United States won the Mexican-American war in 1848, a large portion of Mexico became property of the United States, therefore granting immediate citizenship to those who decided to stay in that area. As the nineteenth century went on, Mexican American discrimination b ecame more prominent. Mob violence killed thousands of Mexican Americans in the early twentieth century. Refugees aren’t here because no other country wants them, but because they don’t have the basic needs to survive. A large percentage of refugees are Middle Eastern. The Syrian civil war began officially on March 15, 2011. Since then, hundreds of thousands of citizens of Syria have been killed. Wynn Flaten, a Syrian response director, stated that â€Å"It is utterly heartbreaking to see the constant calls from humanitarian organizations to put an end to the violence, suffering, and devastation of Syrian people, go unnoticed.† Donald Trump was incorrect to say that people are dumped here because the United States wants to help people. That’s why many refugees come to America; it is one of the only places in the world where people have complete freedom. 5.6 million Syrians have fled Syria as refugees and about half are children. Despite Donald Trump’s claims that America deals with the world’s problems, many other countries took in refugees. She was told to get up from her bus seat to allow a white man to sit and she refused. This activated many protests campaigning for her and against. Though the bus boycott of 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama is her most famous moment, it isn’t all that Rosa Parks did to drive the new law towards complete equal rights. Born in Tuskegee, Alabama, on February 4, 1913, Rosa Parks was one of many to be a negro in the wrong place and time. Nevertheless, the fact that she didn’t have many rights didn’t stop her from fighting to get some. She left school at sixteen to care for her dying mother and wouldn’t return for many years to get her diploma. In 1932, Rosa married Raymond Parks, who was an active member in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Being an African American woman i n the early twentieth century brought many challenges. She could only drink from a certain water fountain, borrow books from a certain library, and attend certain clubs, schools, etc. Parks was arrested in 1955 due to not giving up her seat to a white man and was later released by bail. Homes were bombed, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s. This didn’t stop the boycotters. On November 13, 1956, the Supreme Court ruled that bus segregation was unconstitutional and Parks was named the â€Å"mother of the civil rights movement†. In the years following, Rosa Parks wrote an autobiography. In 1999, Parks was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and after she died at 92 in 2005, she became the first woman in the nation’s history to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol. Yet another hero who fought for the rights of African Americans is the famous Harriet Tubman. She was born in 1820 in Maryland as a slave. Tubman was deeply religious but remained illiterate for her whole life. She found courage in rescuing friends and family from the tie to slavery. Harriet Tubman was the most famous conductor of the Underground Railroad, a network of secret houses and routes used by African Americans to escape to the north. It is estimated that Tubman helped over 300 slaves receive freedom. During the Civil War, Harriet acted as a scout and spy. She helped to raise money to aid soon-to-be slaves. Harriet had eight siblings, and was nicknamed â€Å"Minty† by her mom. Harriet successfully escaped in 1849, along with two of her brothers, Harry and Ben. They ended up having second thoughts and soon returned to the plantation. In her very last trip to help free slaves, she brought the Ennals family, who had to drug their infant to keep from making noise. She was also the first woman to lead an assault during the Civil war. When Harriet was fifty nine years old, she married Nelson Davis, who was twenty two years younger than her. Nelson had tuberculosis and could not work. They adopted a baby in 1874 named Gertie. After the Civil War, Harriet began advocating for women’s suffrage. She gave many speeches in large cities such as Boston, New York and Washington. Due to an injury to the head when she was a slave, she underwent brain surgery but refused anesthesia. Instead, she chewed a bullet which is what soldiers did during the civil war. Harriet Tubman died of pneumonia but was buried with military honors. A current advocate for Mexican Americans is Eva Longoria. Though not as well known as Rosa Parks, Longoria is doing much work for Hispanic Americans. Eva Jacqueline Longoria Bastà ³n is an American Actress who does non profit work for an organization called the Eva Longoria Foundation. Eva was born on March 15, 1975 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born to Mexican American parents. She actually did not learn the Spanish language until 2009. Longoria has acted in many movies, but she has done much more towards correcting the education gap plaguing Latinas. Eva Longoria created Eva’s Heroes in 2006 which helps developmentally disabled children. All races are beautiful in their own way. Neo-nazis, white supremacists, black separatists, the Ku Klux Klan, etc. need to see that loving your own race doesn’t mean that other races need to be put down. Everyone can win. One race doesn’t have to be ang ry for another to be happy. The heroes of America’s past and present that are fighting for equal rights are just trying to show that racial discrimination is wrong. I think that fighting for what you believe in is an extremely courageous thing to do. Donald Trump’s immigration views are something that can be fought against. It’s something that will be fought against. The first amendment states that â€Å"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.† This law means that people are free to believe and think what they want. I will never promote violence among groups of people, but simply educate people on the way that all people deserve to be treated. This movie does have a powerful message of how an unexpected tragedy can change lives forever. We may not have answers as to why or no complete understanding of what truly happens, but we must find a way to move on. As far as depicting real scenarios I believe this movie is right on point with one exception, Oscar was released from school as things started to take place. Before these attacks happened no one felt there was a real threat to humanity, but in a real situation such as this one, school districts, in my opinion, would not have released the children off on their own. Even if no one quite knew what was happening. It is the facilities responsibility to protect and care for those children while they are under their care. This was the only scenario I didn’t agree with. It almost gives a misconception of how schools would react, I think. Last but not least a drama should have quality acting which would foresee effective casting. Someone might seem right for the part but cannot portray the character effectively, which doesn’t make it believable or relatable. If the wrong people are casted, who aren’t quality actors, it would create a different atmosphere for the movie. It may not do so well if the characters aren’t portrayed effectively. I look for actors/actresses who have been awarded for their work and those I’m familiar with because there is a good chance the movie will be worthwhile. Overall Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is a captivating, emotional and heartfelt movie about a boy with autism whom has just lost his father and learning to cope. At the beginning of the play, a grateful and respectful man is presented to the audience. He shakes Eddie’s hand, and makes it clear that he does not want to impose – ‘when you say go, we will go’. This is in stark contrast to the absolute lack of respect your character gives Eddie later in the story, and the more-so you can make this the better the reception will be from the audience. Marco is also quite a reserved character. When the two men first come to the house, Marco speaks only in short sentences, rarely elaborating on his point. However, he also seems to have a quiet authority and this is shown in stage directions when Eddie ‘is coming more and more to address Marco only’. This authority is also shown when Rodolpho starts to sing, saying ‘You’ll be quiet, Rodolpho. ’ silencing his brother. This reservation is also shown in his realistic sense of mind, compared to his brother who has possibly unreachable dreams. He is also not as flamboyant or elaborate as his brother, who sings, cooks and sews; he is a ‘regular bull’. This makes others respect him and this sense of authority and strength needs to be portrayed. In the scene where Marco shows his strength by lifting the chair one-handed, the tables start to turn. The respect Marco once had for Eddie seems to have disappeared suddenly, as Marco menacingly holds the chair over Eddie’s head. On the surface, it looks as though he is protecting his brother, but the underlying reasons are mainly that by doing so, Marco has just proved Eddie’s inferiority. This enjoyment of feeling superior mixed with the defence of his brother makes Marco a fierce character in this scene, and a character that may have been shadowed in earlier scenes come to prominence in the play, and this continues in the later parts. The character then follows a vicious path of revenge after realising that is was Eddie that reported them to Immigration. Your character loses sympathy with the audience due to this, and as you lose sight of everything else why you came to America, your family etc. – the seems to be no compassion in Marco. He not only wants to kill Eddie but humiliate him as much as possible in the process. Essentially, Marco is like Eddie. A formally caring man of his family, he is an honourable man who lacks the quality of forgiveness.

It could be argued that both the international and the Australian domestic legal systems have both been effective in responding to the need for law reform in modern society. There are four key conditions that have been identified as influencing the need for change to law. Both the parliament through statute law and the courts through common law have important roles to play in bringing about effective change. One important condition that gives rise to law reform is the changing of social values. This means reforming laws to suit the changes in society. Social values are standards that guide people in the direction of wrong or right. The similar views society holds upon these standards is a reflection of public morality. Therefore, in order for the law to be abided and relevant to society it needs to reflect the social value of the people. An example of law reform in this area is seen amongst same-sex relationships. Changing social values led to same-sex couples being recognised as de facto relationships. This led to the Property (Relationships) Act 1984 (NSW). Therefore it is evident that the domestic legal system is effective in responding to changing social values. Another important condition that gives rise to law reform relates to new concepts of justice. As social values change, so does the idea of justice. New concepts of justice come in when the law is incapable of delivering just outcomes to individuals and the community. An example of law reform in this area is seen in the case of capital punishment. The concept of justice shifted from retribution (a life for a life) to rehabilitation. This comes to show the effectiveness of the domestic legal system in responding to concepts of justice. Law reform is also influenced by new technology. As technology advances, pressure is placed upon the need for the law to keep up. This is due to its continuous development. An example of law reform in this area is seen in the introduction of motor vehicles, where the law changed regarding safe driving and road safety rules. On a positive note, the introduction of DNA testing machines, have helped to solve many criminal matters. It is therefore seen that the domestic legal system if effective in keeping up with technological advancements. However, technology continues to advance and in order for the law to remain effective it needs to keep up with these changes. A fourth condition that gives rise to law reform is the failure of existing laws. If a law is not being effective, there is a need for law reform. In order for there to be a law reform, a current law must be broken. An example of law reform is this area is seen in the case of AVO’s. Prior to reform, stalking wasn’t a part of putting can AVO on someone. After a woman was killed because of being stalked, the law changed and stalking was added to the AVO. The two agencies that are most influential in carrying out law reform are the parliament and the courts. In relation to the parliament, statute law refers to laws passed in parliament. One example of recent law reform in relation to statute law in Australia, relates to ‘bikie gangs’ and making them illegal. These new laws provide police with powers to search ‘bikies’. It allows them to make court orders regarding the members that associate together. The courts are another important agency of law in Australia. Common law refers to laws passed by courts. The doctrine of precedent is utilised whereby judges must resolve disputes on the basis of decisions made in similar cases. This alone deems the law effective in providing equality to society. One recent example of common law in action relates to Christian Rossiter, a man with spastic quadriplegia after being hit by a car. He argued with the Supreme Court to allow him to refuse the food he is fed by his carer. In doing this, he agreed to understand the consequences of dying, but to Christian dying was better than staying alive in pain. The law reform commission (LRC) in both NSW and Australia plays an important role. The role of the LRC is to provide and improve access to justice, modernise and simplify the law, eliminate problems in the law, suggest new ways of administrating the law and providing justice and removing out dated and unnecessary laws. At the present time, the LRC is involved in many current projects which are helping in changing the law for the better. It is currently working on areas in bail, penalty notice offences, jury directions in criminal trials and people with cognitive and health problems in the criminal justice system. A case that determines a mechanism of law reform relates to Skye’s Law in NSW. This this case the existing law appeared to be failing. In December 2009 a 19-month-old baby, Skye Sassine was killed in a road rage accident. Police were on a high speed chase after two alleged robbers in Sydney’s southwest. The law which was put in place by the NSW cabinet stated that anyone who leads a high speed chase will face jail terms of up to five years. Therefore it can be seen that both statute law and common law have been effective in allowing the legal system to respond to the need for law to make the legal system function in a more effective manner.
